For my metal fan, Ryan, I saw speed metal band Malkovich at the Dutch music showcase last night. It was intense. I don't, as you may guess, listen to a heck of a lot of metal, but I really got into it. The luxuriously coiffed frontman gyrated and writhed, and held the audience rapt. It took me a while to tell if they were singing in Dutch or English — in the end, I think it was mostly English with a little bit of Dutch.
"I'm glad I live in New York City, not in Holland, man" the frontman growled between tunes. "I hate Dutch parties."
The mostly Dutch crowd (which received an admonishment by the house to "tip your bartenders" between sets) ate it up. There were kids moshing up front — well, it was only 2 or 3, but even when only 2 or 3 kids are moshing, it feels like more.
Adept after the jump...
The band took the stage after an introduction which stated, "one of them is wearing the finest shoes in the world." I can only presume the MC meant the frontman who was wearing these outrageously colored booties (I have pics, but I won't be able to upload them until tomorrow).
It was hard to capture their spirit on film, but the really cool thing about these guys (who played a kind of experimental techno) was how the four of them would wiggle around the stage, like strange-noise making worms, to random beats and noises, but then the sound coalesced into one movement, causing the boys to physically freak out on stage. It was honestly kind of magical.
When I left Cake Shop, a band was parading by, causing a ruckus. It was a pretty neat "only in New York"/CMJ experience.

I saw Adept on your video. They're too light for my taste. But I applaud your effort.
