Linkies, with video

• According to Brooklyn Vegan, New York Magazine is hosting a killer NYC scavenger hunt Labor Day weekend. Explore nooks and crannies all over the city in search of clues, with your eyes on the $1,000 prize. Afterparty features performances by Dan Deacon and Ra Ra Riot. Now I appreciate Mr. Deacon, there's something about his music that reminds me of Wesley Willis, minus the mental illness, I guess.

Stereogum doesn't like it, but I think "Be Kind Rewind" could be cool. Why is this music related? Well, we could stretch the Mos Def connection — I love him as a musician and an actor, he was an awesome Ford Prefect — and Jack Black/Tenacious D, of course. But also the music in the trailer. Is it cool to use another film's score as part of your own? OK, String Quartet in F major By Ysaye Quartet is it's own piece of music, but given that soundtrack is such a vital part of every Wes Anderson movie, it just doesn't seem like a good idea to go sniffing through his laundry. But, this is just a trailer after all. And second song, Billy Preston's "Nothing from Nothing" is one of those songs that, like "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," is a go to soundtrack song, but I just love it. It should be in every movie. (Tangent: There should be some sort of soundtrack database, that tracks which songs are used in each movie. C'mon internet, get to it.)

• Via Pitchfork, Kanye is making some last minute changes to his forthcoming "Graduation," adding Lil Wayne on a track called "Barry Bonds." The New Yorker's Sasha Frere-Jones recently weighed in on Lil Wayne's dominance of the rap game, supporting his recent eclipse of rap's former shooting star Jay-Z. Interesting read. I love to imagine SFJ as this curmudgeonly old man (although according to Wikipedia, he's only 40), who begrudgingly uses his music reviewing talents for the good of us all, even though he doesn't want to. In my mind, he also has an ages-old feud with Times critic Jon Pareles.

UPDATE: Snow Day Music has the "Barry Bonds" track.

Wu-Tang is set to record "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," featuring George Harrison's son, Dhani.

• McCarren Park Pool is going to be an actual pool. Mayor Bloomberg wants your input on how that will happen.

• Track listing announced for "I'm Not There," the Bob Dylan biopic, soundtrack. Looks good.

MTV follows up with the Nirvana Baby and other kids who've appeared on album covers. No word on this kid, though. Is there a story? There must be a story.

• ... And, LimeWire goes legit.

i could be wrong but didnt pareles and sfj both write for the rolling stone in the 80s-90s? or the early 90s for sfj. i didnt know anything about a feud though. btw, sfj was at that vampire weekend show last saturday.

1. dan deacon is great. so great in fact i went and bought his album after the pitchfork show (saw the pool show and pitchfork show, the infamous one where the chi fire dept pulled the plug on him). album is not as good as the live show though. i dont really listen to it. live, ive never seen anything like it. he LOVES people, and people love him back? he lives or used to live in a commune down in baltimore area according to what i read. so: ra ra riot, dan deacon, free food and open bar, sounds good to me, i wonder where it will take place i hope something small and intimate like union pool, that would be a lot of fun. and running around the city for clues, that might be fun, like that tv show the great race or whatever it was called.

the dylan soundtrack, big time sy connection, lee r. producing, steve s. playing drums, and sy is providing the closing credits song. im really looking forward to it. also in other sy news thurston is playing solo shows as you know, but also a no fun fest show in october down at the hook, here is the link: http://www.nofunfest.com/

one last thing- i was looking for lightning bolt(the band) youtubes yesterday and came upon this one, pretty funny i think:
