Weekend's best bet: Look ahead

34550595.gif

There's not really much opening opening this weekend, so check out our look at 16 notable films opening in 2008 .

It's a list dominated by action--Cloverfield, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, The Dark Knight--but there's also the latest Harry Potter film, a Star Trek film--and yes, some flick about four chicks who live in a city somewhere....

Best protagonists of 2007

0348_3131.jpg

1. Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem), "No Country for Old Men"
Bardem rocks a bowl cut — and manages to look menacing. Give that man an Oscar!

2. Evan (Michael Cera), "Superbad"
Why? Because he's so darn dorky, yet adorable.

3. Lars Lindstrom (Ryan Gosling), "Lars and the Real Girl"
Only Ryan Gosling could make craziness (with a blow-up doll companion) so endearing.

4. Juno MacGuff (Ellen Page), "Juno"
Smart-mouthed and sassy (even in the advanced stages of pregnancy), Ellen Page as Juno is hilariously memorable.

5. John McClane (Bruce Willis), "Live Free or Die Hard"
Somehow, Bruce Willis manages to keep us wanting more via his role as a trash-talking cop.

1. Merlin, "Shrek the Third"
The famous wizard's turn as a zany ex-high school magic teacher is priceless.

2. Remy, "Ratatouille"
A loveable rat who can cook. 'Nuff said.

3. Tiny, "Meet the Robinsons"
This T-Rex has killer dance moves in his repertoire.

4. Chicken Joe, "Surf's Up"
Hailing from Sheboygan, Wisconsin, this chill chicken learned to surf on the fierce shores of the Great Lakes — ha!

5. Martin and Janet Benson, "Bee Movie"
Barry B. Benson's super-involved parents still manage to be adorable.
