Hollywood's Botox problem

madge.jpg<nick.jpgmeg.jpg
(Left to right: Madonna, Nicole Kidman, Meg Ryan)

Madonna shocked more than a few folks last week when she arrived at a press conference looking very, uh, refreshed. Unnaturally so.

After all, the Material Girl is 49 and you'd be hard pressed to find a wrinkle of any sort on her face. Yeah, that's not natural.

Madge joins the ranks of Hollywood ladies like Nicole Kidman (40) and Meg Ryan (46) who seem to love the Botox.

(It's worth noting that Kidman is pregnant. Mamas-to-be can't get Botox until after they give birth and the effects of the injection wear off after three to four months. We might see her looking a little more au natural in the coming months.)

What do you think? Is this a good look or is there something to be said for looking your age?

How can you say Nicole uses botox? Can you see her wrinkles on her forehead or are you blind?
Stop to blame Nicole Kidman, she's a great actress.

These women are three of the most beautiful, talented, and successful in the world. They would look great with or without botox. Each one of them could make a burlap sack look glamorous.

Nicole obviously looks botox. Her forehead NEVER moves.

Madonna has been using it for years too. Let's not pretend she just started with it!

I really don't think Nicole Kidman uses Botox, maybe Collagen in her lips, but I've seen her wrinkled forehead in many photos of her and in her movies. I think she looks less made up than Madonna and pitiful looking Meg Ryan! Nicole just doesn't look that botoxed to me. She just has the money to have laser on her spots and wear the right makeup, but I've seen pics of her without makeup and she looks good!

I disagree, Julia. Nicole's face has changed drastically over the last few years. She's definiately a botox user. I also disagree with you about her being a great actress. I think she's highly overrated as an actress. Maybe it's because of the botox but her facial expressions seem to be limited to one. What's this article have to do with acting anyway? She can be a great actress and still get botox. Chill.

Ah ah! They've changed Nicole's pics!
Nicole is a great actress: The Hours, Dogville, Eyes Wide Shut, To Die For, The Others, Moulin Rouge, Cold Mountain, Dead Calm, The Portrait Of A Lady. And she's not overrated: she was ignored for her great performance in Margot At The Wedding this year and for Birth three years ago. She doesn't use botox at all! You can see wrinkles everywhere in her candid pics. Whatch her in Margot At The Wedding, her facial expressions are perfectly normal.

Hey all -

It's Korin (I wrote the post).

Yes, I changed the photo of Nicole to one that was snapped several months ago — likely before she was pregnant. Once a woman becomes pregnant she can't use Botox and the effects wear off after three or so months, which is probably why she had a wrinkle in her forehead in the last photo.

I'm not with Nicole when she visits her doctor's office, but it's been widely believed for some time that she's a Botox junkie. (There are 246,000 Google search results for "Nicole Kidman and Botox.") Looking at her photos (pre-pregnancy), I think it's easy to see why. She has the classic Botox symptoms: Shiny face, incredibly tight skin, overarching eyebrows, etc.

Expect her to stay out of the limelight until she gives birth, or at least to cover up her forehead.

This has no reflection on her abilities as an actress, mind you. It just is what it is.

Ummm.

I'm 49 and have never had botox, or any plastic surgery.

The author says it's unnatural for a 49-year-old not to have wrinkles. I beg to differ.

I don't have any wrinkles. I avoid the sun and have great genes. It all depends on what type of skin you were born with, folks.

My mother is 70 now, and has very few. My grandmother had very few.
