Music shoots to the soul, and if you disagree, then clearly you have no soul.

So when someone comes along and takes what you originally perceived and flips it on its head, you take notice. That's the case with Miri Ben-Ari, "the Hip-Hop violinist."

In the traditional realm of thinking, violins and hip-hop never cross paths. But with all the food fusion restaurants, crazy musical collaborations, global market dealings and Photoshop mashups, nothing's really traditional anymore, now is it?

The Grammy Award-winning violinist is the headliner at The Hampton Synagogue in Westhampton Beach at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 6. The free concert is a thank you to supporters of “GEDENK” (“Remember”), her non-profit dedicated to promoting awareness among young people about the Jewish Holocaust.

The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding chairman Russell Simmons (yo know, Rush) and Foundation president and co-founder Rabbi Marc Schneier will host the shindig.

She's worked with Kanye West (Hello, "Jesus Walks"), Janet Jackson, Akon, Wyclef and dozens more. Peep some videos of Miri Ben-Ari and determine for yourself that this is worth the drive.

Last Friday in Sagaponack, J.J. Salem, author of the Hamptons potboiler “Tan Lines” (St. Martin’s), was the toast of a party thrown by two local real estate agents: Patrick McLaughlin of Prudential Douglas Elliman and Corcoran’s Aaron Curtis. This was no ordinary book launch: The event was also an open house for a $6.5 million property on Sagaponack Road, and the usual publishing types mingled with well-heeled househunters. “Tan Lines” is a bargain, by the way, at $24.95.

This is the modern party planning book, or so it claims. It takes Emily Post in 2008 and beyond. Celebs and party planning experts -- how does one get that on a resume? -- offer their tips on such topics as:

* Inviting someone last-minute
* Handling unexpected guests
* Accommodating dietary requests like vegan or kosher
* Leaving a party early
* Asking if you can bring a guest
* Responding to an RSVP--and when

Seriously, how to leave a party early? Um, how about something like, "Hey, I'm out, lata!"?

Third from the left in the slinky silver dress is debut novelist Jasmin Rosemberg at Lily Pond for her launch party of "How the Other Half Hamptons."

The novel so far is a fantastic summer read, as we mentioned in our quickie review last Friday. We'll have our full disclosure review on Thursday, along with a book giveaway contest. The publishers, Hachette Book Group USA, just sent us 10 books to give out to our Hangin' in the Hamptons readers. Details to come on Thursday.

Even Dina Lohan rolled through Lily Pond after dining with daughter Ali Lohan at Kobe Beach Club. Word on the e-street is that Lohan got herself a signed copy of the book and was somewhat surprised that a 2002 college grad could throw down a nice novel at such a young age.

She's a Playmate. She's a Hugh Hefner "girlfriend." She's a Girl Next Door.

She's Kendra Wilkinson and she's celebrating her birthday on Saturday, July 5, at Porky's Hamptons in Hampton Bays.

Giving the holiday weekend, the hot weather and the hotter girl, we're guessing the lines will be somewhat lengthy so plan accordingly.

Something tells me Hangin' in the Hamptons is going to try to have a camera there for this one. If you're lucky, that camera may have some down time in between focusing solely on Kendra and it will snap a few pics of you all flirting with our lens (and each other).

"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" cast member Gary Dourdan appeared at Dune in Southampton Saturday night, where a source says he partied with Greek shipping heir Stavros Niarchos and singer Maxwell. And DJ AM, Nicole Richie's ex, provided the tunes.

Dourdan is supposed to appear in the next season of the VH1's "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew." Earlier this year, he pleaded guilty to cocaine and Ecstasy possession.

Now Long Islanders need to triple-check the money handed back to them by store clerks in the Hamptons because many businesses out east have started accepting euros. As if the Hamptons weren't already internationally flavored enough.

This is the modern party planning book, or so it claims. It takes Emily Post in 2008 and beyond. Celebs and party planning experts -- how does one get that on a resume? -- offer their tips on such topics as:

* Inviting someone last-minute
* Handling unexpected guests
* Accommodating dietary requests like vegan or kosher
* Leaving a party early
* Asking if you can bring a guest
* Responding to an RSVP--and when

Seriously, how to leave a party early? Um, how about something like, "Hey, I'm out, lata!"?

We'll have our full disclosure review on Thursday, along with a book giveaway contest. The publishers, Hachette Book Group USA, just sent us 10 books to give out to our Hangin' in the Hamptons readers. Details to come on Thursday.
