Gunning for fashion
"I'm Fashion Week's grandpa," Tim Gunn informed me before the Yeohlee show got underway at the W hotel off Union Square.
Gunn, host of the new "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style" and designer mentor on "Project Runway," listed off all the shows he's attended and plans to attend. Judging by his enthusiasm (especially for Charles Nolan), I think he can have that title.
Gunn says he's "terrified" about the premiere of his latest reality show tonight and didn't even schedule a private screening for himself beforehand. "If I had seen the rough cuts, I would have wanted to have a hand in it." He's so delightfully upfront, you just want to squeeze him! OK, well I wanted to, but exercised a little restraint.
Liz Claiborne's chief creative director also gushed over designer Yeohlee Teng's "intellectual capacity," adding, "she thinks first and foremost about social issues." Judging by the number of sheer blouses (read: exposed nipples) that filled her show, the designer doesn't have issues with nudity, either.
