Opening kickoff

By Mark La Monica

7:38 a.m. Ugh. LIRR. Ugh, ugh. Right about now, those emphatic "Yo, Jon, you gotta let me blog from Fashion Week" pleas I made last week rank in the top 5 dumbest things I've ever said.

What does a 30-year-old sports schlub with the fashion sense rivaling Turtle of HBO's Entourage doing amongst the beautiful people?

He's not really sure, but he's a night guy and this early in the morning, he thinks writing in the second person is acceptable for this paragraph.

My fashion credentials include having a superior as cool as Boss friend Lil Jon, being good with words (toot! toot!), watching Ready to Wear, dating a girl in college who modeled for some school fashion shows (No. 4 on the all-time ego boost list), and having watched Doctor friend Sophie rock the runway in Florence.

The shows start at 9 a.m.

My fashion goals for the week include people watching, celeb hunting, giving our readers a new point of view on clothing, asking the beautiful people why wind pants and a sleeveless shirt are not acceptable in all social settings, getting Naomi to throw her cell phone at me, doing shots with Johnny Drama, scoring a few invites to some insane parties, and perhaps, just maybe, reporting on some of the things going on under those big tents in Bryant Park and getting free junk, all the while maintaining the strict ethics and professionalism my mentors taught me.

And yeah, sure, maybe checking out the chicks.

Send emails to mark.lamonica@newsday.com about what you want to know about from Fashion Week and I'll do my best to get you those answers.
